Have you ever wondered what it would be like to run your own business? Well, let me give you an insight: In the early stages, you will have to work long hours, you will most likely have to pay yourself a small salary and, if you have employees, you will be the last in the queue. You will have problem after problem and must think on your feet to solve issues fast without making them into a drama. You will have sleepless nights, heart aches and probably fall out with your partner/spouse along the way and, when everyone else has gone home, you will be lonely. Have I put you off yet? Good either way; because, if I have put you off, then I just saved you a fortune and if I haven’t, keep reading. For those of you who are still here, the best is yet to come! You may go bust and lose everything; you may not quite lose everything (like me) and then turn it around to make your business boom; or, you may become a massive success straight off the bat. Whichever way it happens for you, be aware of one thing, on some level you created it all, and that’s the best thing, and the worst thing, about running your own business. It’s all down to you. The cash flow; the wages; the tax; the insurance; the rates; the ups and the downs; are all your creation. Are you still reading? If you are, then here is the really good bit… I wouldn’t change it for the world! I’m my own boss, and that’s worth its weight in gold. If you get through all the bad stuff, the good stuff just makes all the rest disappear. Yes, it can still be challenging and lonely sometimes, but there is nothing like knowing it’s all down to you. The day I got up and realised that I could no longer work for someone else was amazing, and I for one could never go back.
